Searching for a local passport office? You’ve come to the right place. There are two types of passport offices in the US: Passport Acceptance Facilities and Regional Passport Agencies. Passport Acceptance Facilities are local passport offices that offer passport applications and review applications, verify your identity and US citizenship as a preliminary step to getting your passport. If applying for a first time passport or a passport for a child, or a replacement for a lost or damaged passport, the Passport Acceptance Facility will seal your application into an official envelope in a process called “executing the application”.
Why are acceptance agents important?
The local passport office can send in your application for expedited passport service via mail, which will take 2-3 weeks to finish. If you require faster service, for example, to get your passport within 24 hours, you can send it to a registered passport expeditor company for an expedited service.
A local passport office or the acceptance agency is either a post office, county clerk, even some libraries provide service for passport applications. The issue with many of these offices is they go by appointment only. The libraries and county clerks sometimes accept walk-in appointments.
